Entrepreneur magazine sat down with a panel of 5 of the leading futurists and cultural anthropologists to get a sense of the next 5 years in business. (The article is called "How the Next Five Years Will Revolutionize Business" and you can read the full text HERE.) In the past, business models stayed prepared by looking 6 months or a year into the future. Now, with technology booming and spreading, with a new generation of "digital natives" and with the world of business transforming to be more sustainable, profitable and inherently tech-based, a year into the future doesn't seem quite far enough. From 3D printers to 5 billion people joining the internet community, what do the next 5 years hold for businesses and entrepreneurs? Here's what we gathered from their report:

  • A new wave of "digital natives" will join the workforce, disrupting business models, goals for growth and the structures we have used to grow and develop our businesses. This is a good thing.
  • Scaling using the cloud will make it easier than ever to build businesses in an instant and grow them as fast as you can put the ideas and information out.
  • Collaborative businesses will become more successful as they are designed to be more efficient and cheaper for business owners. Consider this idea and evaluate your current relationships with other businesses whose products are sold to your demographic without threatening your own sales. The more needs you can meet, the more customers you will have.
  • Further more, we predict to see larger corporations fostering small businesses and start ups--for a price. We don’t want to sound like doomsayers, but when small and medium-sized businesses are dying faster than they’re being born, so is free enterprise. And when free enterprise dies, America dies with it.

It's important to remember why you're a business owner and why you chose to start your venture in America, a culture that has historically nurtured small business. Over the next five years, support small business. Secure your place.

What predictions do you have for the world of business and for your own business in the next five years? Comment below.
