museheadband

[vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_column_text]Last month we wrote about the importance of meditation for your overall happiness and well-being. So we understand that meditation is essential for success, however, knowing that does not make things any easier. Meditation is still difficult and frustrating. Usually after a 15-minute session of mediation, you have no idea how “well” you did. Were you able to relax and calm your mind? Or were you daydreaming the entire time? Until the Muse headband, it was very hard to tell how well you meditated.

The Muse Headband changes this. It is a simple to use EEG headband that records your brain during meditation to give you detailed data and feedback. It’s like a fit bit for your brain.

EEG's have been around for quite some time, but not for commercial and in-home use, until now that is. The muse headband connects to an app on your smartphone and gives you feedback during and after your meditation sessions. It’s a pretty simple set-up. Find a comfortable seat, put in headphones, adjust and calibrate the Muse on your forehead, and relax. During your session, the app will give you feedback through the soundtrack. The setting is a beach, and the more racing thoughts you have, the louder the wind and the waves are. As you start to calm your mind down, the waves and wind will cease to crash. IF you reach a complete state of calm, you’ll even get to hear a flock of birds gently land in an area nearby.

Ariel Garten, the founder, demonstrates how she can lift her chair up to the ceiling by calming her mind. This technology is in it’s earliest stages, but slowly and surely, we will be able to use our minds to alter the physical world around us. Exciting stuff.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="2814" border_color="grey" img_link_large="" img_link_target="_self" img_size="medium" alignment="center"][vc_single_image image="2811" alignment="center" border_color="grey" img_link_large="" img_link_target="_self" img_size="medium"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_video link="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rzlrItooG4"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="2808" border_color="grey" img_link_large="" img_link_target="_self" img_size="large" alignment="center"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_video link="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyA08QV_2QU"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_separator][vc_column_text]For example, this weekend at Voice and Exit, I was able to shoot lasers out of my eyes by blinking or clenching my jaw. Let me explain, Unello Design and Neuromore paired up the muse headband and the oculus rift to affect virtual reality with brainwaves.

Keep in mind, there are some kinks and bugs to this kind of technology, and it's nowhere near perfect. I actually had to return the Muse headband because it simply did not work for me. It sells for $300 dollars but acts very much like a beta product. Every time I would sit down with Muse to try and meditate, it wouldn't get past the calibration phase, which, as you can imagine, did the exact opposite of relaxing me.

Looking at the reviews, it appears that this is a rare problem. Thankfully I was able to easily refund my money in full and without question. I had high hopes for this wearable, but it definitely did not meet them. However, I am still really excited to see future products that will make EEG's much more accessible for commercial use.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
