Civil Rights Shaping American Business

Though Mondays are usually for marketing here on Velvet Cartel's B2B ATX blog, today we would like to discuss a more relevant topic. A little more than 50 years ago, the Civil Rights Act of 1964  was enacted to outlaw discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Over the past 50 years, minorities and women have begun to forge a path for themselves in industries where they were previously not treated fairly, or in some cases, welcome at all. Today, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, minorities own more than 4.1 million firms, and account for nearly $700 billion in revenues.

Today, January 19th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Today is a day to celebrate civil rights and lend a hand to those struggling for success and equality in all of its forms. To find out how to volunteer in your area, click HERE.
